Shipper Export Declaration (SED)

The shipper export declaration or SED for its acronym, is an electronic document where the declarant as the exporter or customs broker includes the information relating to the goods, this declaration is a fundamental requirement for certain exports from the United States, if not comply with this requirement and the export is made, both the supplier or freight forwarder may incur fines or penalties by the U.S. government.

In the case of vehicle exports to Venezuela, certain parameters or essential steps must be met to comply with the process, one of them is the SED, in addition to the inspection of the vehicle to ensure that it is not under requirement and is in good condition, a process that customs is responsible for performing to ensure that the vehicle is safe, and also the declaration of dangerous cargo, in cases where the item will be transported with battery or gasoline.

Let’s remember that for the transport of dangerous cargo, the declaration is essential to identify the products by their correct name, comply with packaging and labeling according to the IMDG code.

The SED is carried out through the automated export system and has contributed to greater customs control, in addition to allowing the United States to keep actual export statistics.
